A 5-year-old girl is missing her best friend after returning home from her first trip to Disney World.
“As soon as our car pulled in the driveway, she was outside yelling, Bentley, Bentley, I'm home buddy,” said the mother of the 5-year-old. “And of course, he was not there.”
According to the little girl’s parents, Bentley is one of their two pets who went missing after Wednesday’s storm.
“The rear gate open and both of our dogs wandered out,” the mother added.
According to the father, a friend who was stopping by to check on the dogs at the Stratford Road home, contacted the family while they were on vacation to notify them that their dogs were gone.
“We got the news midway through the vacation,” said the mother. “Needless to say, my husband and I maintained a brave face for the 5-year-old; however, it was very hard to enjoy ourselves.”
When the family arrived home, a complete stranger returned one of the dogs on Sunday.
“He clearly did not have a lot, but had a huge heart and kept her safe for several days,” the mother added. “We were so grateful.”
But Bentley, the yellow lab was still missing.
“My 5-year-old is beside herself,” said the mother. “This is her best friend.”
Bentley is 6 years old and weighs 85 pounds. The owners say he’s a big friendly dog and has a microchip.
Bentley was last seen in the Forest Hills area near downtown Columbia.
