Columbia Police arrested two men accused of trafficking a large amount of marijuana from another state to Columbia Thursday.
Police arrested and charged both 27-year-old John Desmond Kelly and 27-year-old Harvey Jai Johnson with trafficking marijuana.
Police say the charges stem from a tip regarding drug activity at a home at the Arrington Apartments on Carnegie Street.
During the investigation, CPD Narcotics Officers gained information that narcotics were to be delivered from another state to Columbia.
Officers say Kelly and Johnson were seen at the apartment at the time of the delivery.
Both are accused of transporting the box of marijuana in a car.
The report said officers conducted a lawful traffic stop of the suspects’ vehicle on Two Notch Road.
During the stop, a K9 officer detected narcotics in the vehicle.
Officers say they also smelled a strong odor of raw and burned marijuana coming from the car.
As a result, officers seized approximately 11 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $22,000, the report stated.
Officers also seized close to $5,000 in cash.
Both suspects were booked and transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
