The Richland County Sheriff’s Department arrested two men they say broke into two motor vehicles.
Deputies say 18-year-old Shaquil Hammonds and 20-year-old DeAndre Lorrick were arrested and both charged with burglary and breaking into a motor vehicle.
The reports said between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, Hammonds and Lorrick entered through the garage of a residence located at 12 Lakecrest Drive and searched through two vehicles.
Deputies say once inside, Hammonds and Lorrick stole money and an iPod from the vehicles then fled the area.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department Forensics Lab was able to obtain DNA from the crime scene which was later determined to belong to Hammonds, according to sheriff’s deputies.
Deputies say Hammonds was arrested on Dec. 11.
Investigators said Lorrick was implicated by an acquaintance as the second suspect in this case, and was subsequently arrested at 16-1 Lorick Circle on Dec.12, without incident.
Deputies recovered the iPod from the theft.
Hammonds and Lorrick were transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
