Main Street Ice “Hangs Up The Skates”

 

The first season has come to an end for Columbia’s Famously Hot, Surprising Cool new outdoor ice skating rink, Main Street Ice. Crews began dismantling the ice skating rink this morning and will be clearing Boyd Plaza over the next few days.  

City Parks and Recreation officials are reporting that just over fourteen hundred skaters visited the rink over the last two weeks, bringing the attendance total for the entire season to over fifteen thousand.

Temporary Trail Closing Scheduled at Riverfront Park

 

The north end of the walking trail at Riverfront Park, near the Broad River Bridge, will be closed for two weeks due to continued construction work associated with the Broad River Bridge project.

Riverfront Park will remain open throughout the time of construction and the walking trail will be accessible from the park entrance at Laurel Street, leading up to construction barricades at the two mile marker.

The north end of the walking trail is expected to reopen on Wednesday, February 7, 2013.

Local student-athletes in the running to play in 2013 McDonald’s All American Games

–  McDonald’s® has announced its list of 814 prep seniors who have been nominated to play in the 2013 McDonald’s All American Games. This year’s list boasts players from 39 states and the District of Columbia who have been selected by high school coaches, athletic directors, principals and members of the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee.  A total of seven players hail from the Midlands of South Carolina.
