Cromer's P-Nuts And Jamestown Java To Host Peanut Palooza

Cromer’s P-nuts and Jamestown Java have teamed up to host the Peanut Palooza- Famously Hot & Hungry festival May 11th from 11 am to 4 pm at their newly-revamped location, 1700 Huger St.

 

This outdoor springtime event features live music, games, kids’ activities, local artists, performers and the opportunity to discover, or rediscover, Cromer's P-nuts, Jamestown Java, DiPrato's, K & K Gourmet Sweets, Smoking Coals and a plethora of other locally owned Columbia food, entertainment and craft businesses.

Expect delays, nighttime lane closures and periodic lane shifts for a 10 mile work zone to widen Interstate 20 from Interstate 77 (MM 74.7) past Spears Creek Church Road (MM 84.6) in Richland County.  Completion is anticipated summer 2014.

Work It Up Information Sessions

The Eau Claire Development Corporation and TN Development Corporation recently announced a job training initiative, called Work It Up, geared toward assisting City of Columbia citizens who are unemployed or underemployed.

 

Work It Up will provide grants not to exceed $3,000 for 20 individuals whose total household income is 80 percent or below the Area Median Income (AMI) as defined by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

 

There are several information sessions scheduled throughout the month of May.

South Carolina State Museum announces "Between the Springmaid Sheets" exhibit

The South Carolina State Museum’s new art exhibit Between the Springmaid Sheets will be the occasion for an afternoon of fun activity on Saturday, May 18.  

The action begins at 3 p.m. with a gallery tour of the exhibit, which uses art to chronicle the rise of Springs Cotton Mills as a major player in textile industry after World War II.  The company’s good fortunes were chiefly due to the marketing savvy of Col.

State Transport Police Names Top Employees For 2012

The South Carolina State Transport Police held a ceremony today to recognize its top employees for 2012. The State Transport Police is a division of  SCDPS and is responsible for the enforcement and administration of state and federal laws governing commercial motor vehicles.

 

The awards honor STP employees throughout the state for outstanding achievement. The awards are based on employees’ performance in areas such as enforcement, commercial motor vehicle safety, out-of-service violations and overall work ethic.

Electrical short blamed for early morning fire

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS)- Fire investigators say an electrical short caused a fire that forced a Columbia father and son out of their home early Saturday morning.

Columbia Fire Department was called to the home on Highland Point Drive just before 5 a.m. Saturday.

Brick Lewis with the fire department says a smoke detector alerted the two people living in the home and they were able to escape with their pet.

The fire caused $225,000 in damage.
