Another meeting, still no elections director named

The board met Monday.

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS)- Another meeting for the Richland County
Elections Commissioners was held today, but still no official executive director
named for the Elections and Voter Registration office.

The commissioners went into executive session following
opening remarks for the meeting to discuss personnel and legal matters. The
board did not return to a public session for almost two hours. Upon returning,
the meeting was adjourned in less than 5 minutes, with no director named.

Columbia Major Steve Benjamin announces re-election bid

Steve Benjamin announces his intention to seek re-election in front of Columbia's Mast General Store on Main Street.

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS)- Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin on Monday announced that he will seek re-election in the upcoming November 5 municipal election.

He joins city councilman Moe Baddourah and businessman Larry Sypolt who have already declared their intentions to seek the job.

"Today, I am announcing that I will be a candidate for re-election and today we are launching our 2013 campaign," Benjamin told reporters, supporters and onlookers during a morning news conference at the corner of Main and Taylor Streets.

S.C. Bar Young Lawyers to teach students about civics

The S.C. Bar Young Lawyers Division (YLD) is holding its second annual iCivics Day on Monday, May 20, to help teach students about civics and inspire them to be leaders in our democracy.

 

More than 60 YLD attorney volunteers will travel to 44 schools throughout the state to present to more than 5700 fourth and fifth-grade students on the following topics:
