COLUMBIA, SC (WIS)- New Columbia City Manager Teresa Wilson has made her first hire in the position by appointing a new chief financial officer for the city.
The city announced Jeff Palen had been appointed to the position Thursday after a 4-year tenure as Columbia's city treasurer.
In a statement, Wilson praised Palen's work in his efforts to refinance city bonds to save money, rebuilding the city's financial reserves, and debt rating stabilization and upgrades from S&P and Moody's.
"Jeff will do very well in working with all
departments to facilitate and assist with the development of new financing
plans, programs and projects while also expecting compliance and
accountability. Based on his proven track record in the private and public
sectors, his solid relationships with our banking partners and financial
advisors as well as his calm and personable demeanor with staff, Jeff will
succeed in his new role as CFO for the City of Columbia," said Wilson in the statement.
