Report: Man charged with DUI after passing out in McDonalds drive-thru | Crime
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department arrested an Irmo man on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and possessing cocaine after officers say he passed out in a drive–thru lane.
The report said around 4:50 a.m., on Sunday officers responded to the McDonalds restaurant located on Saint Andrews Road after receiving a call from an employee that a suspicious vehicle was parked in the drive–thru lane and the driver appeared to be passed out.
Upon arrival, deputies located 36-year-old William Travis Sauls, II, sleep behind the wheel, with his foot on the brake and the car in drive, the report stated.
Deputies say they also observed cocaine in a plastic bag in the cup holder.
The report said once officers were able to wake up Sauls, they instructed him to put the vehicle in park. Officers say it took several attempts for Sauls to follow their commands.
When deputies asked Sauls if he was ok, he replied “I must have passed out,” the report stated.
Deputies say when Sauls stepped away from the vehicle they observed that he was unsteady on his feet and could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath.
The report said when officers asked Sauls how much he had to drink he stated “13 beers”.
Sauls was arrested and transported to Lexington County Detention Center.
Sauls was released from the Lexington County Detention Center on December 16, after posting bail totaling $6,022.
