Deputies: Man arrested after pistol-whipping girlfriend | Crime

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – Deputies arrested a man they say beat up a woman with a pistol late Wednesday night.

22-year-old Calip Canzater was arrested and charged with criminal domestic violence, attempted murder, and burglary on Thursday. 

Investigators say Canzater broke into his girlfriend's home on Crane Church Road in Richland County Wednesday night around 11:00.

When officers arrived, they found a 28-year-old woman who was severely beaten on her upper body, according to investigators. 

Officers believe Canzater identified as the victim’s boyfriend, used a pistol to beat her.

Deputies say the woman was taken to Palmetto Health Richland where her condition is unknown. 

Investigators say Canzater was not at the home when deputies arrived, but later apprehended.
