At-Large City Council members to host fish fry

At-Large City Council Members Tameika Isaac Devine and Daniel Rickenmann will sponsor a Fish Fry this month instead of their usual open house. This will be Councilman Rickenmann’s final open house/reception and the community is invited to attend. The Fish Fry will be held at 1225 Lady Street, in the parking lot, from 5:30p.m. – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2012. In the event of rain, the Fish Fry will be moved indoors.

CPD: Elderly woman tried to fight off robbery suspects with cane

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS)- An 84-year-old woman tried unsuccessfully to fend off three robbery suspects from her home using her cane, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Officers say 19-year-old John Brandon Foster and at least two other unidentified suspects are sought in connection with the incident.

Police say Foster and the suspects are accused of approaching an 87-year-old man outside of his home on Koon Road and forcing their way inside.

Once inside, investigators say the group threatened the man and his wife with guns.

Columbia Jaycees to Host a Movie at the Nickelodeon Theater on May 16th

The Columbia Jaycees will be hosting an outing to the Nickelodeon Theatere on Wednesday, May 16th. The theater is located at 937 Main Street in Columbia. They will be seeing the movie “Coriolanus” at 8:00pm. Admission is $7.50 and drink specials at The Nick include buckets (4 bottles) of PBR for $6 or Yeungling for $8. Wine will also be available for purchase.

Columbia Jaycees to host Baseball Game on May 31st

The Columbia Jaycees will host a good old fashioned game of Blowfish baseball at the Capital City Stadium.

Come out and enjoy America's favorite pastime on Thursday, May 31st. The game begins at 7:05pm, but gates open at 6:00pm. Arrive early to take advantage of their "Thirsty Thursday" deals: two for $3 Bud & Bud Light cans and $2 16oz Bud Light drafts.

Tickets are $7, but pair up with a friend and bring at least 2 non-perishable food donations to receive a complimentary ticket with the purchase of one regular priced ticket.

Fraud suspect turns self in after seeing self on news

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS)- Richland County deputies say a woman wanted on charges of bank fraud turned herself in after seeing herself on the evening news.

A sheriff's department spokesperson says 21-year-old Shatonia Trenae Butler gave herself up to deputies on May 3.

Deputies say Butler fled a St. Andrews Road grocery store with a $900 money order that was purchased by customer that was in front of her in line. Officials say the customer bought the order and left it unattended on the counter.
